Charting a New Course

The findings of the 2022 ASDA’A BCW Arab Youth Survey show that the ‘Arab Spring’ generation is charting a new course away from the divisions of more than a decade ago

What do over 200 million young Arabs have to say about their future? Every year, we set out to answer this question with the Annual ASDA’A BCW Arab Youth Survey – the largest study of its kind into the region’s largest demographic – its youth. Our evidence-based insights provide governments, the private sector, media and civil society with valuable data for decision-making and policy formation.

We conduct the annual ASDA’A BCW Arab Youth Survey every year for three reasons:

Execution

For the 2022 survey,  we commissioned IDS Research & Consultancy to conduct face-to-face interviews with 3,400 Arab citizens aged 18 to 24 in 50 cities across 17 Arab states from May 13 to June 16, 2022. The sample was equally split between men and women.

The findings of the 2022 ASDA’A BCW Arab Youth Survey were presented under six distinct themes – My Identity, My Livelihood, My Politics, My Global Citizenship, My Lifestyle and My Aspirations.  The survey examined the hopes, fears and aspirations of the so-called Arab Spring Generation, the cohort of Arab men and women who entered adulthood after the epochal events of the early 2010s.

What the findings show is a generation ‘Charting A New Course’ away from the divisions of more than a decade ago.

The findings were presented at a launch event in September. We created shareable social media soundbites, media collateral and infographics, as well as an in-depth white paper with expert commentary on the findings. All the data are available for the public to access at our website: arabyouthsurvey.com

Impact
As in previous years, global tier-one media coverage and social media coverage of the findings was substantial, with Tier 1 media coverage in over 987 global outlets, in addition to 62 minutes of prime-time TV, reaching over 500 million people. Top line coverage was secured in more than 50 countries in 17 languages, including The Economist and AP, while on social media, the survey gained 24.5 million impressions and a dedicated TikTok channel launched gaining 8.4 million video views in just 10 days.
